Sessot prepares to take the abortifacient, but slips into her memories of her encounter with Caedwulf. In her memory it appears as less a consensual encounter than one she had not known how to escape.

Sessot prepares the abortifacient according to Suki’s instructions and sits to wait for the water to cool. She tries to recall how she slipped from the “good girl” she had always believed herself to one who would commit such sins and crimes as this.
As she does very often, she begins ruminating about her meeting with Caedwulf and tries to decide at which point, or with which act she stopped being a good girl. From her memories it appears that she had not wanted to have sex with Caedwulf, but one thing led to another, and the farther she allowed him to go, the less she felt herself in a position to refuse.
She realizes that this is how good girls go bad, and she wonders what lies and sinful acts she will next have to commit to hide her abortion.
Impulsively she dumps the rest of the herbs into the cup, remembering that Suki told her taking it all at once would be fatal.
Just as suddenly she jumps up and tosses the entire contents out the window.
