Submitted by Lothere on Tue, 02/05/2008 - 12:46.I have Uni, NL, Pets, and Seasons installed. I also have OFB but I have never, ever installed it. I think I have the first Holiday pack installed, too. Isn't that where the famous mistletoe comes from?
Now I'm wondering about Bon Voyage. I have heard a lot of people complaining about bugs, and I already have enough bugs from Seasons and/or Pets. (Such as the very annoying bug where the wedding ring flips diagonally and appears to slice through the Sim's finger...) I know Verity just got Bon Voyage so I am looking forward to seeing what she does with beaches. Tiana has already used forests in her story, which has halfway-convinced me to buy it.
PS: Devin, I am testing out image-related stuff at the moment. This might interest you.

Submitted by stacysaurus on Tue, 02/05/2008 - 16:28.I don't have any of the Stuff Packs (too cheap to buy those I just get the custom stuff...) and for expansions I have University, Nightlife, Open For Business, Pets, and Seasons... I really want to get Bon Voyage but I can't buy anything right now. And that new Free Time one or whatever looks kind of cool; I'm excited for it
I haven't been able to play The Sims much lately because I downloaded too much crap (15 gigs ;_;) and it takes a billion years to load. I keep telling myself to load up the game so I can clear out some of the junk I don't need but ahhhhh... takes so long!!! I get impatient. Maybe today I will do it...
What, there's another EP
Submitted by Lothere on Tue, 02/05/2008 - 16:36.What, there's another EP coming out? Why am I always one expansion back behind in my inability to make up my mind to buy the "latest" EP? Does it have any medieval stuff?
You have me beat 3x in download folder size. I was feeling bad about my own until now. I only have 512MB of RAM, though, so proportionally speaking perhaps I still win at having too much CC for my computer to handle.
I wish it were easier to clean out CC I don't want... it drives me crazy when I am trying to delete hair or clothes in CAS (or even bodyshop I think), where you click on the trash can, it waits for like 20 seconds, deletes it, then kicks you back to the start of the list so you have to scroll through everything again to get to where you left off when you were deleting things. If I could just *click* *click* *click* I would go through it all and maybe my game would load in less than 15 minutes.

Submitted by François on Tue, 02/05/2008 - 22:22.I think Free Time would be very interresting for you, Lothere ! They can do "poterie" (so they can actually make new deco stuff) and ancients toys like teddy bears that don't look modern and there is a sewing machine (though it didn't exist in middle age). And they can play the violin (but it did not existed too), and cook special plates... I don't know if they are many new hair or things, but I think you might look for that EP.
On a second hand, I think Bon Voyage is best for mountains (Scotland ?) and the see (Norway ?) and if EA does another patch, maybe there won't be bugs anymore and then that could be awesome. But I have heard it might delete your cheatings code and hacks and since you don't "play" the sims... The choice is to you !
Are there mountains in BV?
Submitted by Lothere on Wed, 02/06/2008 - 05:37.Are there mountains in BV? I was expecting forests and beaches... Mountains could be useful...
The last EPs have brought nothing interesting in terms of hair, so I'm not holding my breath for that. Anyway I hardly ever use Maxis hair any more, it's too fake-looking. But new build mode elements would be cool. If I ever install OFB it will be to get those round roofs that have never been enabled in a later EP.
There is another patch
Submitted by Lisa on Tue, 02/12/2008 - 12:44.There is another patch coming soon for BV.
I have all of the expansions so far, plus Family Fun, Glamour Life, Celebrations, & H & M.
Stacysaurus, you should try
Submitted by Taryn on Wed, 02/13/2008 - 00:43.Stacysaurus, you should try using the Content Manager. It allows you to go through your downloads and enable/disable or delete content, without having to go into the game. It'll also let you know which downloads conflict with the game, in some slight way or another. It won't give you a full pic of what the content is (just gives a flat looking image of the content), but some are easy to see what it is. I use it often to clean up my downloads folder, I find it quiet handy. If you'd like to try it then you can find it here:
http://thesims2.ea.com/help/?pid=Help_tutorials
Its under Tools for your game. Hope that helps you sort out all your downloads. I know how crazy it can get with downloading stuff continuously. I found the Content Manager whilst looking for a program to do this exact thing because at one stage my game wouldn't load up at all without crashing, thats how much CC I had.
Anyhow, to answer the actual question in this topic, I have all ep's and sp's at the moment, but my game is taking a little bit of strain. I definately won't be buying anymore sp's, and as for the last ep, well its seems cool but I don't think I'll be buying it. I've just started up a new story and fear what may happen if I load in another ep.
Plus I've actually discovered that my 'wear any outfit whilst pregnant' mod for ep 3, actually works in my game. I've been searching for this mod forever. So far *knocks on wood* it appears to work find, with no bugs or anything. But I just know that loading another ep will probably conflict with it. Plus new ep's normally come with loads of problems.
Taryn, do you know whether
Submitted by Lothere on Wed, 02/13/2008 - 05:39.Taryn, do you know whether there is any significant difference between the Content Manager and the Clean Installer? I use the latter to manage my package files as well, but it only really works well with clothes, since for objects it only displays the flat texture (which often looks little like the object).
Maybe I will install it anyway to see what it announces in terms of possible conflicts. I have a weird mod conflict where people are writing with paring knives instead of pens, even though I just downloaded a new mod that is supposed to make pens look brown and slightly more medieval instead of red. If it could tell me those two were conflicting, I could figure out where that paring knife mod was hiding itself!
Conrad... excising the best parts of the penitential for later perusal?
I've never used the Clean
Submitted by Taryn on Wed, 02/13/2008 - 06:35.I've never used the Clean Installer, so unfortunately anything I say would be classed as a lie. With the Content Manager, you can search through all the clothes, objects and so forth in their different catagories. Or view all CC as a whole, you'll see that some are in red, this means they conflict with your game, usually all my mods come up in red (so I tend not to stress). Some objects will probably come up in there to as conflicting with the game, dunno why an object would cause a conflict.
Anyhow, in the "conflict" section it'll list all your mods and so forth, you can disable the content you think might be causing the issue, then see if your game runs better. Whats cool about it is that it has that disabiling function, so you don't have to scout it down and delete it from your downloads folder. If the problem persists and it doesn't seem to be that mod, then enabiling it is easy. Also you can delete things in that program, instead of finding it in your downloads. Which I found to be a blessing since my folder usually gets chaotic, even though I try filter in the downloads in the correct order (I'm lazy I suppose).
The Content Manager won't display a proper pic of what the clothes, object or mod is. It'll also be a flat pic, sometimes there are multiple pics you can scroll through, and one might show you exactly what it is. But I don't find it hard to descipher what it is from either the flat pic or the description.
I dunno if it'll tell you if two specific mods are conflicting, but by disabiling one it might allow you to see if they're not working so well together. I'm useless when it comes to figuring out why my sims game is buggy, I usually end up disabling things in the 'conflict' section one at a time to see what might be causing it. So I'm not sure what advise to give on that problem, I suppose trying the Content Manager couldn't hurt. It may just be useful.

I wish the Country Living EP was real, though, that would be sooooo useful for medieval hoods. I hate April Fool's Day. Invariably I get my hopes up about something or other.

Submitted by Lothere on Tue, 06/03/2008 - 17:02.U has a Mac? Does CC you download work with the Mac version of the game? I occasionally get so sick of Windows I just want to wipe it off my computer, but I still need it for The Sims. (And also my family tree software but I could just use something else if it came to that.) And I occasionally want to get a Mac. So...
Absolutely all of the CC
Submitted by PenelopetheFox on Tue, 06/03/2008 - 17:52.Absolutely all of the CC works for Mac! I was a life-long Windows user before I got my Mac about 2 years ago and I LOVE it. The operating system is so easy to use and there are no viruses and no pop-ups and everything is so neat and clean and minimalist and... and... It's a good computer. But when I bought mine, I would have never in a million years imagined myself playing a video game of any kind. So I do run into some game-lag. But of course, Mac does make computers with fast processors and superior graphics cards. If you're thinking about buying one though, I would not suggest the regular MacBook. My boyfriend has one and the build quality is a little shoddy. Get a Macbook Pro or one of their desktops. Ok, I'm done advertising now.
Edit: Ooo, I also want to add that you can run Windows and Leopard on a Macintosh computer simultaneously if you need Windows for a certain program. I don't know if SimPE works with Leopard or MacOsX. But yeah, there are never any conflicts with the custom content.

It looks like they are lit like floors and walls, which is good (for me) to know. I just wonder, can they be recolored? How do you put them down -- do you get ceilings everywhere you have floors above? Do the ceilings have the same color as the floor above??? *must know*
I swear I will get this game only for the ceilings if they do what I ask of them. I am so so so tired of putting down ceilings one tile at a time.

Actually, you can recolor
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Mon, 12/29/2008 - 12:03.Actually, you can recolor the ceiling tiles separately from the floor above, so you can have the ceiling and the floor be whatever color you want. And it uses the same shift+click function that lets you fill the whole room with the same color.
Now that would be lovely!!
Submitted by Lothere on Mon, 12/29/2008 - 12:10.Now that would be lovely!! And they're probably lit the same way as floors, too, which would be better for me than my ceiling tiles, since they're lit as objects and generally end up too bright.
And every time I have a look at oceans I want Bon Voyage too....
I feel like I did shortly before I bit the bullet and installed Pets and Seasons in one go. "This is either going to break my game or make it very cool."
