OK, I proposed some nice Anglo-Saxon / Celtic names that might have shown up along the Scottish border in this period. Since I already approve them all, just for fun I promise I will go with whichever one wins. But I get my vote like everyone else!

Ach, I didn't help to choose since there is equality between for of them. Anyway, it is so difficult to choose. I think Gudram is quite cool, but I think we could get bored of the "ae" or "an" names so that why I voted for Fergus ! (Don't worry, I always wandering in the family tree so there is no spoil to me about who'll be dead or who'll marry who since I saw it since the beginning of the story. It is just more funny because I try to guess how you'll make that things happen.)

So back to the subjects, Fergus is awesome because it's different ! Vote for Fergus !

Aedan is probably my favorite of the names, but I voted for my second favorite in case Araphel offs this body, too. Maybe Aedan can be for a character in the future who has a better chance of sticking around

I voted Randal because it reminded me of "randy".

I'm with you Lothere, I chose Gudram, as it has a certain 'strength' to it. And we all know the strength of heart Egelric has within himself.

He's had to bear his fair share of burdens throughout his 'colourful' life.
And without his friends supporting, goading and bullying him, I'm sure he'd have left the valley, never to have returned.

Let's hope Araphael lives up to his new namesake (even if it is Randy Randall )

See? Aedan = Trendy. (What's a PBEM though?) But that's OK if people like it. It is close enough to Aed that I can justify it.

I like Sæward because it seems so romantic to me... Sæ means "sea", and "ward" (or "weard") means either ward as in warden or guardian -- someone who is assigned to stand guard over the sea, or -ward as in "westward". Seaward! How romantic is that?

Please disregard the fact that Lothere is far from the sea.

The name survives as the surname "Seward", but I've never seen anyone who has it as a first name. I'm sure someone does, though, if only because in certain circles kids sometimes get named for their mother's or some other relative's surname.

No matter what happens, I still vote for Gudram. It's a nice solid name and very fitting for a very solidly built man that came from the loins of Egelric.

i changed my vote from Aedan to Saeward, too. You done convinced me. It's a pity Aidan is such a trendy name these days, because I adore it and have for years. Hopefully by the time I get around to having babies myself, it won't be so trendy anymore!

PBEM = Play-By-Email. You've heard of MUDs and MUCKs before-- online text roleplays? PBEMs is another format where players roleplay a scene through emails, then post the complete scene on a collective message board for everyone to read (or Yahoo group, as my old PBEM was held there). Basically it's online roleplaying and people create their own characters to participate. Aidan and many of its derivatives was a very popular name for medieval male characters, and for good reason too: it's a very pretty name.

Now that I know what it means, "Sæward" IS sooo romantic! [/Gwynn] But I agree that it might not fit New-New Araphel, whom I recall has been linked to the sturdy strength of oxen. I picked Gudram too, in the end (although just based on how the name looks, I prefer the Guthram spelling).

And "Sæward" certainly fits another man with mysterious eyes~ *does Sim-fan-self action*

I voted Fergus again because it still doesn't sound like any Lothere actual name so he would be unique !

I picked the G name to add some variety into the sounds. When I'm reading, I'm imagining the characters speaking and trying to figure out how middle English and Saxon and the other accents would sound.

I'm with everyone else on the Gudram, I guess I just like the name.

That's an even better image than hewn granite. His daddy can be granite -- he can be Appalachian folk art!

Don't worry, I'm going to to use all of the names sooner or later. (Not necessarily on Araphel, though at the rate he's going through bodies lately, who knows?)

Well, I chose Fergus because not only is it cool-sounding, you could really drag it out, like "Ferrrrrrrrrrgus!" And it's the best name I could place a Scottish accent on, and also because it sounds like my last name!. (Fergusin) Hurray for Scotland and all progeny of people from Scottland! But, I also had the one with the overlapping "AE" it looked cool, but never could I pronounce it, sorry.

Really! YES!! Only three more chapters and we could see more of Araphel in his smexy new body!

Just go to her bio page : I have pregnancy info with approximate due dates included now. (At least for the main characters so far.) She's due in late March.

Oh dear, I've spent a significant portion of 2008 fighting to keep my skirt down in the Scottish wind so I can say for certain that I wouldn't be out calling Fergus long enough for the name to grow on me completely.

And now that I'm back in the states, I do miss the pretty flowers. And the hordes of sheep, which also decorate the hill sides.

It's a tiring life. Maybe someday I'll grow-up and get a permanent residence.

Yep. I just received my BA in Creative Writing (ewww an English major)! So between school, my family and my boyfriend's family there's a lot of traveling going on. I hope to soon pair down my location to just Pittsburgh.
