Sorry for being so dumb..... but

Can you please explain NKM for me.
I've followed all the chapters and read the comments, and noticed that it keeps popping up in conversations.
I might have missed an explanation along the way, but I's a little confuzzled (and it doesn't take much to confuse my old brain )
Really sorry if this is a dumb question.

And oh yes, I agree, there have been plenty of those around, with the prospects of much much more.
Thank you Devin

Submitted by Lothere on Tue, 04/08/2008 - 09:46.Which is to say November, 1085, month of the deaths of Lili and of Ethelwyn & Mouse's baby son, the revelation of Leofric's love for Hetty, and Alred's almost-suicide and meeting with Matilda. And probably some more angsty stuff I can't recall off-hand. Dantalion probably did something shitty to Eithne in there as well, in spite of himself.

He might have all-encompassing powers, but he STILL has a lot to learn about humans/mortals, and their fragile lives.
I have to agree that Alred DID pull at my hearstrings momentarily there.
However, I must have a heart of stone, as I also found that his'WHY ME?!?! act started to annoy me too.
But I guess that's just me.

Submitted by Lothere on Tue, 04/08/2008 - 09:58.Alred does tend to get annoying when he starts feeling sorry for himself. (Who doesn't? Hmm, Hetty maybe, though we will see how long that lasts.)
The NKM characters more clearly deserving of our sympathy than Alred are Hetty and -- dare I say? -- Leofric.
Though I suppose there are a few people who will disagree that those two deserve any sympathy either. Adultery and so forth.
OK so the "clear" NKM winner is probably the Old Man, whose father tried to kill himself on his tenth birthday. Wyn and Mouse too, who just lost their first child. Even if Wyn can be a bit of a prig sometimes, nobody deserves that.
I do understand Alred's
Submitted by Cassie on Tue, 04/08/2008 - 10:17.I do understand Alred's despair. He's in a really horrible place emotionally and psychologically right now. I can sympathize. I've been there. I certainly agree that he's handling the whole Hetty thing very, very badly and I'm really sorry for Hetty. She really got the short end of the stick, didn't she? All at once she nearly lost her husband, got totally bitch-slapped with guilt over it, and had to deal with thinking that he loved Lili more than her (which he didn't) AND Matilda (which he did.) Oh, and her sister died, just to top it all off.
Poor Old Man. He's suffered a lot with his father in his short life.
