Condal's Eyes
Submitted by Lothere on Sun, 04/27/2008 - 14:30.
Yesterday I was adding Sims and CC to my database, and seeing as Condal's eyes have been and soon will be a big deal, I was attempting to figure out exactly which eye she had. I thought it was an Enayla eye, so I went through all those, and I did a few others I thought it might have been, and I even went so far as to run Clean Installer on my entire downloads folder and sort by type so that I could see whether I had mysteriously acquired some eyes that were not in my eye folder. No luck.
Then I had an inspiration! And sure enough! I found Condal's eyes! Here!
Yes, that's right, Condal does not have eyes. I must have deleted the eye she was using, and the game fell back to using the eye that is embedded in the skin file itself. (She is using Enayla's Autumn skin.) And that would explain how this girl ended up with gray-green eyes in spite of having a mother and father who both had golden or brown eyes as far as I could recall.
Needless to say, there is no way I'm going to change her back to some boring brown color now. So I tried looking through all of Enayla's eyes in search of the same eye, and even though this is the same texture she has used on tons of eyes, she does not seem ever to have released an eye in exactly that color. Therefore, if I want Condal to have eyes that she can pass on to her babies, I had to make an eye package for her.
This I promptly did, by snipping the eye out of the face image and pasting it into a new eye file by way of BodyShop. I also made a slightly greenish version (which I called "Sidhe"), since in my mind her eyes tended towards green. However, now that I know the story of her gray eyes, I think I may just leave her with the color she already has, and save the greenish eyes for another Sim.
Here they are in CAS so you can see them with decent lighting. "Sidhe" is the greenish one. The model happens to be Sir Malcolm's mother (except for the eyes of course), since she was hanging around in my sim bin and Connie wasn't.
If you want to download them to have in your own game, I attached them below. I have two versions: one has been "geneticized" meaning it will be inheritable in your game à la this article, and one is just regular CC with genetic of "0" meaning that it will trump any eye that isn't CC when making babies. So just pick one depending on whether you are into tweaking game genetics or not. The geneticized versions are both rated "2" which makes them inherit like green or blue eyes (in my game).

Submitted by Choco on Sat, 05/03/2008 - 10:54.Well, let me be the first to say thanks! Condal's eyes are indeed very awesome and it would be great to have the in our own games. I like the Sidhe eyes too. I can't wait to try them out. Thanks a ton!
Do all skins have eyes
Submitted by PenelopetheFox on Sun, 08/10/2008 - 10:18.Do all skins have eyes embedded? I am thinking about getting rid of a dated eye set that I have but 7 of my sims are currently using the eyes. I have a Mac so that means no SimPe (and thus I cannot change the sims' eye color). Would it be wise to delete the eyes? Would they be replaced by some other already embedded eyes or nothingness? Is there a way to check? The sims with the eyes I'm planning on deleting are all using HP's Idolatry of the Flesh skintone. Hmmmmmmmmmm.............
As far as I recall all of
Submitted by Lothere on Mon, 08/11/2008 - 04:56.As far as I recall all of the skins I have do have eyes embedded, but I would imagine some creators do not bother to make them pretty. If they change the color of the skin by changing the color of the entire image, for example, you would get eyes of a funky color. And since it's just a corner of the face image, there's no reason why they couldn't just paint over it entirely. Or make different colored eyes on different ages and genders... (Though I doubt HP would be so sloppy.)
When I have deliberately or accidentally deleted eyes in use, the information about which eyes the Sims were using did stay in their character file. Connie's Sim is still merrily reporting that it's using eyes I haven't had in a year, and I've saved her tons of times without problems.
Therefore, if you know which files the eyes are in, you can just move them to another location outside of your EA Games folder and start up the game without them to see how they would look. If you quit without saving and move the eyes back, it should not cause a problem AFAIK. It is supposedly possible to find out the file name of CC by enabling testingCheatsEnabled before going to CAS, but surprisingly I have never tried it.
Lack of SimPE is why I have not switched from Windows to Mac. If I had a second body or 48 hours in my day I would just write a Mac version and call it a programming exercise, but I would rather write stories in my limited free time.
Well, the eyes underneath
Submitted by PenelopetheFox on Mon, 08/11/2008 - 08:01.Well, the eyes underneath were a sort of pretty gray. I've put contacts on some of the sims for color variation but if only I could change the actual eye! How does a sim with no eyes pass eye color genetics?
Thanks for the tips, Lothere! I'm going to try out the cheat code.
I am really not sure how
Submitted by Lothere on Mon, 08/11/2008 - 08:09.I am really not sure how genetics works in that case, but I would not be surprised to learn that the eye color would be passed on as usual, whether or not the file actually exists.
I will try to remember to try it out with Eyeless Connie later.
