My elfy problem
Submitted by Verity on Thu, 05/01/2008 - 03:32.
Okay guys. I have a problem. I just grew Aisling (the first of the Mhalwae kids up) and while I had grown her up before to see what she looked like, she always had long hair so I didn't notice that... SHE HAS ELF EARS!!!! Arg! Mega-problem. WTF! Don't you hate it so much how sometimes you can have completely normal parents and they suddenly produce a kid with pointy ears. And the weirdest thing (and the reason I didn't really notice) is that when she grows up to be an adult they aren't there anymore. So strange. So I didn't notice the problem because I only played around with her hair when she was in adult format.
So I ask you all... does anyone know how to get rid of elf ears without changing the face layout? I am pretty sure there isn't a way, and I am not prepared to change her face because I like it (it isn't the prettiest face ever but it is a nice mix of her parents looks). So if nobody has a way, which I am pretty sure there isn't, I am just going to have to work it into the story. It isn't so bad, I think it will add an interesting aspect. It is just a bit annoying when the sims throws you these curveballs.

Oh, Verity, that sucks so
Submitted by Karen on Thu, 05/01/2008 - 07:59.Oh, Verity, that sucks so much! I can't help you in regards to changing the ears, unfortunately. Are there any hairstyles you have that might cover them until she's an adult? That might be the best way if she won't have the elf ears when she transitions again.
I have never even heard of
Submitted by Lothere on Thu, 05/01/2008 - 08:07.I have never even heard of such a thing!
Already I have never seen ears spontaneously becoming elf when the parents aren't elves. (Nor the contrary, 2 elven parents having non-elf children.)
But ears being elf ears for the space of one life stage only... that is even weirder. It sounds more like you have a glitch in your game. Did you ever download any CAS replacement faces?
AFAIK there is no way to modify the ears, either in body shop or in plastic surgery. I have already dealt with this problem when trying to get Iylaine and Malcolm to have kids with elf ears.
If I were you, I would just use a long hairstyle while she is that age. But if you can think of a way to work elf ears into the story, then unwork them once she gets older, that might be interesting too. There's magic in Mhalwae after all.
I know... it is totally
Submitted by Verity on Thu, 05/01/2008 - 09:41.I know... it is totally weird. I have however seen this once before... I remember that at Fortune Shores, Mandie had a kid with elf ears from Kennedy Cox and one of her own made sims http://fortuneshores.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html Samuel Fairfax about halfway down the page. So beware guys... it can happen! I am totally going to be more careful when checking my sim babies in the future. It is a difficult problem and of course a complete pain that I can't do anything to fix it. But I have worked around it to some extent. Because I am terribly pedantic and I don't want to have the kid suddenly have long hair (I want her to grow it in stages so it is more realistic) I am just going to live with the ears. It is a strange new world I have set my game in so who knows what could happen. In two chapters we will get some sort of explanation (sort of) and also to see Aisling with her elfy ears. They are very super cute to be honest. It is weird that she won't have them when she is an adult but we'll see. You guys will just have to bear with me to some extent if the explanations are little outlandish. I kind of like the direction it is taking though and I think it is going to be fun .

Submitted by Verity on Thu, 05/01/2008 - 09:44.Oh and I forgot to say, I have downloaded CAS replacements. The ones you recommended in your making sims different tutorial. It could be a glitch there I guess. I wonder if Mandi has them too. Oh well... it doesn't matter so much. It just makes things a bit more challenging but that is probably a good thing too.
How hilarious would that be
Submitted by Lothere on Thu, 05/01/2008 - 09:48.How hilarious would that be if one of my human+human couples spontaneously had an elf-eared child. That would be a really tough one for the poor mother to explain!
I will be sure to check all of my kids from now on though. After the first laugh, it would kill me to have to recreate a Sim that we already got to know.
I am not surprised you decided to work it into the story, Verity. I am sure you will find an intriguing explanation for it.

Submitted by Lisa on Fri, 05/02/2008 - 07:35.I have heard from other people that sims don't always age up looking the same as they do when they're aged with InSim and then aged back down/exited without saving. So it's possible that Aisling may still have her elfy ears when she ages in game.
