To The Lotherian Community

Okay, I just really want to say that this is the best online community ever!
I've been enraptured by Lothere's writing style as well as the commenters.
We all pull together to figure out whodunnit when something goes awry and we always root for the underdog to win!
This is the first community that I've ever been apart of where EVERYBODY is truly friendly towards everyone else.
I guess what I'm trying to say is...
I LOVE LOTHERE!

I never thought I would say
Submitted by Lothere on Tue, 06/03/2008 - 11:19.I never thought I would say this, but I am honored to be a nucleus.
I'm not really sure how it happened, myself. I wrote for about 10 months before the first reader showed up, and since then (early fall of 2006) it has grown into all this. I feel like I haven't put any effort into it, which probably just means it has been so much fun I haven't noticed I have.
The most amazing thing to me has been watching my readers interacting with each other. Like, whoa, what did I make here? This is really real, and involves real people having real conversations... about my imaginary world.
And sometimes even about other things!

It truly has been one of the most amazing experiences of my adult life. Obviously I don't have the Dark Lady to tell me about alternative timelines where I did not start this story, but it is quite possible that it actually saved my life, so that's pretty meaningful stuff.
So, thanks Tiffany for giving me the opportunity to say Thanks, everyone! Thanks for reading (I see you in my Web server logs, O ye silent ones
) and especially thanks for commenting and participating in forum discussions and making me feel really, really good about myself.
And thanks for letting little clones of my imaginary world live in your brain, and thanks for loving and hating my characters so much they make you laugh and cry and desire to either make out with or emasculate them. If you all love Alred hard enough, he acquires an existence outside of my mind. And that is my definition of Real.
Awwwww... Lothere, you have
Submitted by Twistedchic911 on Tue, 06/03/2008 - 12:14.Awwwww... Lothere, you have done plenty! Just cranking these stories out on a regular basis amazes lazy me! If I did this as long as you did, I would still be at Bertie's toddler stage!
Gosh, give your self a pat on the back!
I mean, you have two freaking forums, in any case, all ready two other people I know are reading you story after I told them and we talk about it on the phone too! They haven't caught up yet, but they love what they have read! Keep up the good work!

I agree! I don't even own
Submitted by Tiffany on Tue, 06/03/2008 - 12:42.I agree! I don't even own the game and I appreciate all the effort that you put forth. The positions, the angles, the downloads (my God!), not to mention getting your computer to handle all of that!
Aside from the visuals, you've made a believable story and your memory is impeccable! Your ability to balance several storylines and manage future ones months and even years ahead astounds me! But I guess what really makes me jealous is your community. You practically live with these people all day and they talk to you. What I would give to be able to hypothetically have tea with Alred or Gunnie! You have a great knack at writing and weaving in bits of lore into your story that everybody, regardless of background or focus can relate to. It's a marvelous thing you have here, Lothere.
I admit, I stalk your site everyday. My computer saves the last site I was
on automatically, so I keep yours minimized while I'm surfing the net.
I have a confession to make:
Submitted by PenelopetheFox on Tue, 06/03/2008 - 18:11.I have a confession to make: Lothere is my homepage. This way, I can see immediately when an update has been made. I haven't been so entertained by a story in a long time. Everything I read is so academic. And a story with elves and angels and the undead and whatnot! I am typically very critical of fantasy stories because it has been so ingrained in me that they aren't worthwhile. But I can't even tell you just how beautifully done this story is. Thank you, Lothere, for sharing this with the world.
Wow, same here! I have
Submitted by Twistedchic911 on Tue, 06/03/2008 - 18:32.Wow, same here! I have Lothere as my home page too, and every time a new chapter is out, I immediately click on it and comment about anything I can find. I visit the forum and the home page about 50 times a day waiting to see if anyone commented about anything or if a new post has been uploaded. I'm currently re-reading the first few posts and I have to say that your picture taking and writing style has greatly changed over the past three or four years you have been doing this. I love the stuff you have in the game and I know that I'm always on the watch for anything like a dress or a table that I could recommend, and I know that almost everyone who reads this probably does the same. I love how everyone gets so into the story and can even influence the outcome of the plot lines. But most of all I love how everyone is so kind to one another here, I haven't come across one argument here against any other reader, unlike the BBS or any other chat room I've been on. So, for that I sure am proud of everyone here!

Your home page?? Seriously?
Submitted by Lothere on Tue, 06/03/2008 - 19:56.Your home page?? Seriously? I made a home page?
Here I thought everyone just used RSS to check for updates. That is just... wow.
I check Lothere several
Submitted by Karen on Wed, 06/04/2008 - 02:16.I check Lothere several times a day; it's one of the first things I check in the morning and usually the last thing I check before bed. Sometimes I feel like I'm TOO addicted, but hearing about others making this their homepage makes me realize that I'm not any different from the other readers!
I also have one friend who has been reading the story and we've been getting together every couple of weeks to discuss what she's read so far. Her goal is to be done by Tuesday, and after that she'll probably join the forum and start commenting. I'm also trying to get my mom into it, too.
Lothere is going to spread like ca-razy!
I asked my mom and sister to
Submitted by François on Wed, 06/04/2008 - 13:02.I asked my mom and sister to read you because it's one of the greatest stories I've ever read and that would improve their english. With that said, I have no need to add that Lothere is in a special favorite place in my favorite links. And I check the website everyday when I come back from work and I look at the pictures of the new chapters (but I don't read the text since I didn't catch up yet
) Someday, I'll be in present time, but I'll wait for summer break to have a little time to read more... Because the thing is, when I start reading back Lothere, I can't stop for the night, and obviously, I cannot do that when I'm working. Your story is so addictive. And each time I look at the "present-time" chapters, I say to myself : "Is that possible ? Her pictures are even better than three "months" earlier, the graphics are better, oh, I just want to catch present time to know who's that new character..." What can I say ! You deserve the community that created itself around Lothere. It all came from scratch, as people are naturally attracted by talent and beautiful art. Because Lothere is art, really !
Sorry for the french part, but sometimes, things are easier to express in your first langage and since I know you read French...
I must admit that I am
Submitted by Sonia on Tue, 06/17/2008 - 11:39.I must admit that I am thoroughly enjoying reading your story and taking part in your forum too.
It was this story that inspired me to my own drama series Cloverdale (although recently I haven't had the time to update it much).
But the way you weave effortlessly the intricacies of folklore into every nuance of your story is truly outstanding.
Each character is multi faceted, and either you love them or hate them.
It really feels good to actually discuss at great length, which character you like/dislike, how we all anticipate what's going to happen in future chapters.
I know I'm waffling here, but my point is, that I am so glad to be part of this nucleus too.
If it hadn't been for my friend Taryn, I'd never have gotten so embroiled in such a heavily tapestried story. Nor would I have discovered and joined in your forum, to join with everyone else, discussing and (sorry to say, analysing) each character at great length.
Bravo Lothere for bringing us all a little insight into your medieval/fantasy world.
Wow, this is one of the longest speeches I've ever made *pats self on back*
I have to agree with
Submitted by Rebecca on Wed, 09/17/2008 - 17:01.I have to agree with everyone on how wonderful this whole setup is, Lothere! During the month and odd week or so when I was scrambling to get caught up into the 'modern day,' I felt like I was practically living in the Kingdom of Lothere. I would read pretty much from when I got up and then all day long until my head was pounding from staring at the computer screen for so, so long! It is just that good!
The story is so long that I couldn't help but wonder what it would look like printed in a book, so I did some calculations and got that it is more than double the size of your average King James Bible. Wowzah! I can't even comprehend how you have the stamina to keep writing such a long story. It is positively epic! And just keeps getting longer and longer! The very idea puts me into a sort of reader's heaven!
I love that you make comments on the chapters, too, and can answer questions and discuss things with the readers. You just can't get that kind of feedback from any old type of story. The characters are amazing and the writing is amazing, and then you take these amazing pictures, too! I play the sims like nobody's business, and I know that it is tough to move those little digital people around and set up all the shots! I am really in awe of your story telling prowess (and general mad skillzzz, yo
).
Lothere, I commend thee!
Thank you for creating this wonderful universe of Awesome!
I has Mad skillz Thanks for
Submitted by Lothere on Wed, 09/17/2008 - 17:31.I has Mad skillz
Thanks for saying all that. It means so much to me to know that there are people who care about these characters and this imaginary world the way I do. This is why I do it, really. Not until you read it does it become real.
Really interesting about the KJV... I hadn't thought to compare it to that even though I have a massive and gorgeous KJV sitting behind me on the bookshelf. (Barry Moser illustrated edition... a real page-turner cuz you're dying to get to the next picture) 783,137 words in there, the first google search result tells me. I have indeed written more than twice that already, in a little less than 3 years.
*wanders off, completely boggled*
And it took how many
Submitted by Rebecca on Wed, 09/17/2008 - 18:06.And it took how many thousands of years for them to write up the Bible?
Hm, according to my just now search for the world's longest novels, dear Wikipedia says that you've already passed Marcel Proust, who had 1.5 million with À la Recherche du Temps Perdu!. And he is number 4 on the list! Woot woot!
Lothere pwns!
Sorry to get so caught up in these numbers. I am just *in awe*!
I was feeling a little
Submitted by Lothere on Wed, 09/17/2008 - 19:44.I was feeling a little worried that the program I am using to count words (the venerable Unix utility wc) is skewing my numbers. But I just ran it on the KJV and got 789,844, which is less than 1% off from 783,137. So I really am that wordy. And I didn't even cheat by having page after page of "And M begat N, and N begat O, P, and Q, and O begat..."
Anyway, in Lothere Leofric begat just about everybody under the age of 30.
I have to say that À la Recherche du Temps Perdu is one of the most beautiful books ever written if you can handle the density of the prose. So I wrote more but Proust definitely wrote better.
Wow Lothere!
Submitted by Verity on Mon, 09/29/2008 - 11:29.Wow Lothere! Congratulations! That really is a feat. I can't believe you have written so much in such a short time. I am totally impressed
. And you have written quality as well as quantity. It is not like you are just churning out the chapters... every single one is so totally well-written. When I am writing I often feel like I am rushing out chapters because I can't make them better without a lot more effort (or I really don't know how to make them better
). But I think everything that you put up on your site is perfect down the very last metaphoric detail. The amount of time and effort you have put into this is phenomenal. Thank you for giving us such an amazing story to read and for keeping it going so that we never have to wonder what happens to our favourite characters after the story ends. The story never ends!!!
:)
And thankyou too for bringing all these awesome people together in a very cool forum. I feel like I have been extremely absent as of late and I am really itching to talk to some of you in chatroom. But dammit... nobody is ever online when I am. Oh well... I'm sure I will coincide with some of you sometime soon
