What kept you reading?

Lothere is always marveling at the fact that we manage to plow through the early years of the story. Personally, the writing didn't bother me that much. (I mean, it is a sim story. I wasn't expecting James Joyce.) I think what did it for me initially was Elfleda's crazy baby-knapping. Then it was the Egelric/Gunnilda tension. I was also quite fond of Alwy.
What brought other people to the table with this story? I thought that asking that question might be helpful for an author who is contemplating re-writing or summarizing those early years.

I don't really remember. It
Submitted by Lisa on Thu, 08/07/2008 - 06:50.I don't really remember. It was slow for me at first, probably due to all the historical facts, but at some point I became hooked like the rest of the readers.
I think maybe it was the supernatural story lines that hooked me.
I'm not quite sure really.
Submitted by Sonia on Thu, 08/07/2008 - 12:56.I'm not quite sure really. Taryn recommended that I read this 'amazing new story', and my 'obsession' just grew from there.
I must have spent about 4-5 months solid, trying to catch up with each chapter. Reading with gusto, how Lothere intricately wove a complex tapestry of characters old and new, interesting and spellbinding chapters.
And even now, I find myself logging in, just to check to see if there are any more updates.

Submitted by Devin on Sat, 08/09/2008 - 10:11.What kept me reading was my interest in Elfleda and Maud. They were so complex and mysterious that I kept coming back to read more about them. And that made got me addicted to this story.
hahahahha! I remember what
Submitted by Twistedchic911 on Sun, 08/10/2008 - 12:47.hahahahha! I remember what did it was the shear number of chapters! I hate it when a story I read and like is abandoned by the author an it just sorta hangs in place, often at exciting moments. When I saw Lothere, I expected to be up for about a night, reading. (I started near finals, I needed a breakf rom studying
) Little did I know that by the time the sun came up, I wasn't even 1/8 done. That's when obsession swooped in. I was DETERMINED to finish, but then she started adding more chapters.
After that, around the first chapter with Edie, I was hooked.

Submitted by Devin on Sun, 08/10/2008 - 14:17.I miss that feeling of knowing that there were more chapters to read. I remember when I first started to read this blog, I had to write down the date I was up to so I didn't lose my chapter. Now I have to patiently wait for an update.
Ha! I expected to be done in
Submitted by PenelopetheFox on Sun, 08/10/2008 - 14:20.Ha! I expected to be done in a day or two, too. And of course as I was reading, the chapters just kept coming. I thought I would never finish and was a little sad when I did get caught up!

Submitted by Twistedchic911 on Sun, 08/10/2008 - 14:38.hahahah I did the chapter-writing thing too Devin. I agree I sorta miss knowing that there's always more chapters, but I think the wait is best this way, 'cause now all the fans can use their Karma Cards to maybe save a few characters. (Leofric, don't die! If you do, I'll kill you!
) Mostly, I like speculating about what's gonna happen, only to be totally surprized, and I love the things we say to each other, it makes it about 50X funner than it is. I mean, where would we be if we never had a great big slab of the DRAMA steak?

Submitted by Devin on Sun, 08/10/2008 - 18:24.Had I read a bit earlier on I might have tried to persuade or badger Lothere out of killing Sela too early.
I would have done the same
Submitted by Twistedchic911 on Sun, 08/10/2008 - 21:01.I would have done the same with Matilda, her and Alred were my favorites back in the old days. But Mags sorta is filling the Matilda-hole for now, so I guess it's not that bad, still I miss the spackbear joke they had running.

Spackbears! Thank you for
Submitted by Lothere on Mon, 08/11/2008 - 05:06.Spackbears! Thank you for reminding me of that one. I could have Alred whisper a few details about spackbears to Brit, and the good times would surely be relived....

Submitted by Twistedchic911 on Mon, 08/11/2008 - 13:54.I think the only reason I remembered that was because it sounded so much like speckled-bears and apparently, there is a song that speaks of said bears, and now I have the speckled-bear song stuck in my head. Not only will that make my day, maybe Brit can pass down the legend of the spackbears to her daughter! And it can go down the line and down the ages until suddenly, we fast forward to 2008 and Spackbear is the name of a great warrior hero! Yay for rememberence!

I think I was hooked from
Submitted by Verity on Mon, 09/29/2008 - 11:23.I think I was hooked from word go. I was already completely drawn in at the beginning with Sigefrith trying to win Maud. I didn't need anything to keep me interested... the whole idea and writing style had me interested. I think there wasn't a particular storyline that really drew me in to start with, I just was terribly interested in the idea of character development in these short chapters. All of the storylines drew me in!
