I am Very Mad
Submitted by Devin on Wed, 08/27/2008 - 15:46.
Today I bought the Sims 2 Apartment Life, when I got home I put the disk in my cd-rom drive and the auto-run didn't show up I then looked at the box and on the cover it said PC DVD-ROM! I am so pissed my dvd-rom driver hasn't worked in years and now I am forced to buy a new one. Fuckin EA games how dare they put me in more expense!
When I install the new dvd-rom driver will I lose all of my saved programs?

Submitted by Lothere on Wed, 08/27/2008 - 19:17.They probably have to use a DVD because it comes out to more than 700 megabytes of stuff. It's cheaper to manufacture 1 DVD than 2 or more CDs so there you go. I think CDs will gradually disappear anyway... you won't be able to fit much of anything on a CD any more, just like floppy disks...
Normally you won't lose anything when you install a new drive. Usually once you put the hardware in and start up your computer again, Windows will just automatically find it and give you the old "Found new hardware" dialog. Sometimes the drive will come with a DVD (or CD, ha!) with extra drivers you need to install, but that shouldn't hurt anything either. Most of the time they just come with mediocre DVD-burning software (assuming it's a writer and not just a reader of course) but you don't have to install that if you don't want.
Good luck, sir!

Submitted by Twistedchic911 on Wed, 08/27/2008 - 19:43.Oh noes! I'm just about to click for it on Ebay, but know I'm having second thoughts. I've heard alot of complaints about something called secu-rom or something like a yeti-virus eating my computer up. I guess I can hold my self back, just until more info comes out. Devin, if you ever get this fixed, give us a status report.

A simmer on another board
Submitted by Lisa on Fri, 08/29/2008 - 09:00.A simmer on another board told us that Apartment Life requires 2G of hard drive space. Apparently the file size for this EP is massive and that's why it's on DVD instead of CD.
Twisted, Secu-Rom has been on all EPs & stuff pack since Bon Voyage.

(And thank's Lisa, I didn't get Bon-voyage and I didn't know. I think there's something on the web that'll crack secru-rom)

Maybe Secu-Rom has to do
Submitted by PenelopetheFox on Fri, 08/29/2008 - 17:46.Maybe Secu-Rom has to do with Mac users not getting FreeTime.
Actually, I guess it's more likely that the most recent expansions aren't being released for Mac because new Macs can simultaneously use Windows and Leopard.

Submitted by Twistedchic911 on Fri, 08/29/2008 - 18:41.Oh no! You have a Mac? Ouch, they never make them fast enough for the Macs, I hear that Bon yoyage hasn't even come out yet for you guys. Wow. Hey, mac-related question: how do you guys right click? I mean, It's ONE button, do you have to do anything fancy?

Edit: Hey, doesn't work on the forum! *sadness*
