I miss Matilda!

Reading the latest comment made me realize how long she's been gone, and how much I miss her. She made me really sad there at the end, but Magog, she was so beautiful and wonderful and it's no wonder Alred loved her as much as he did.
There is just no one like her.

Margaret is a little like
Submitted by PenelopetheFox on Tue, 09/30/2008 - 14:23.Margaret is a little like her. As is Leia. In fact, I'm expecting one of those girls to grow up as a full-on reincarnation of Matilda someday.
I am not so sure anymore...
Submitted by Lothere on Tue, 09/30/2008 - 15:29.I am not so sure anymore... I always thought Margaret would be Matilda 2.0, but lately she seems to be a little too cool-headed and clever for that. Not that Matilda was stupid, but she did occasionally do some ditzy things, like that whole confusion about Cubby's paternity that Fini was commenting on this morning. I just can't see Margaret doing something like that.
It seems that Margaret likes to feel that she is in control of her faculties, whereas Gwynn just throws herself heedlessly into whatever fires up her passions. In fact it seems like passion (and consequent loss of self-control) is the one thing Margaret fears the most.
But then again, she's still 11 years old.
Anyway, I'm starting to sense that Gwynn and Margaret are the equivalent of Dunstan and Yware with respect to their father. Lately with Gwynn rubbing herself on Egelric and falling speechless at the sight of Shirtless, and Margaret swearing and stomping yet running from Conrad's kisses, they each seem like they got half of Matilda. But Matilda and Alred didn't have a third girl to be the equivalent to the Old Man...
Unless that equivalent is Leia. Wow we need to see that girl again. She definitely has Matilda's mouth on her, and her strong stubborn will.
But no matter who becomes most like her, I don't think anyone will ever replace Matilda for me. I miss her so much. And even if one of her girls turns out to be like her in every word and act and gesture, it won't BE Matilda, with all the Alred + Matilda romance, and the history, and everything. So I'm afraid I'll be sniffling forever.
I miss her all the time. All
Submitted by Cassie on Wed, 10/01/2008 - 10:59.I miss her all the time. All the time. I don't think there will be anyone like her, ever. I love Margaret and (increasingly every time we see her) Gwynn, but I think they will be their own women.
I can't believe how long she's been gone! I bet Margaret will have less and less memories of her as she gets older, and I'm sure Gwynn might not have that many memories of her either. I always thought Matilda and Dunstan had a really special relationship...I thought the letter-writing chapter to her was the saddest one ever. Certainly for me at least.
I love Matilda with Alred so much that I sometimes forget how much I love her just on her own, as a character, as a woman. She was "as wide as the whole world."

Sometimes its hard to
Submitted by Devin on Wed, 10/01/2008 - 13:36.Sometimes its hard to beleive that she's gone. I always thought Matilda was the strongest out of the original women of Lothere. I believed that she would out live all of them even Gunnilda, but I was wrong. In the last couple of years of her life we saw her go into this mid-life crisis that she never got out of. I often wonder what her life would have been like if she survived Peleia's birth I remember Meryt that you said Matilda would have kept and raised her. 1080 was such a horrible year, it started out with Matilda's death and ended with Sela's murder.
If I could wish 2 characters back to life, Matilda would be after Sela of course.
I know this might sound
Submitted by Tiffany on Fri, 10/24/2008 - 16:15.I know this might sound awkward or weird but for the past month I've been searching for this chapter of Alred and Matlida.
It's when Matilda was in her depression stage and she and Alred were um...in the moment and she made him get off of her because she didn't want to get pregnant?
Okay, I really don't know how to word it except for that Alred got rejected in his bed. Can you post a link?
I think you mean "Alred
Submitted by Lothere on Fri, 10/24/2008 - 16:26.I think you mean "Alred regrets and despairs".
Oh man that one hurts to reread.

Submitted by Desdmona on Sun, 05/03/2009 - 19:38.I miss Matilda too although, I am seeing bits of her in her children form time to time. (Really, I read a resent chapter and mentally chanted her name and said Matilda rides again.)
