Submitted by Jesska on Wed, 11/11/2009 - 19:41.Ha, nah. I actually smile a lot, just around good friends I guess. The mean face thing is just a bad family affliction, which is something my friends never let live down though.
Um... Here's a smiley picture I dug up.
I think I'm happy?
Oh don't get me started on the shopping for body replacements jaunt... I need a new ankle, new hip joints, a new butt...
*shrug* I dunno. My eyes are usually dark though, both my parents have blue eyes of some shade, so I guess I just followed suit.
Can't tell you how many times when I was little I'd look in the mirror and try to find green. Oh well.
Sign me up for maruutsu's too! And PenelopetheFox's! Though, I guess it's as the saying goes, 'People with straight want curly, and the curly want straight." Probably why I coo'ed over Old Man's hair so much.
It's the "You better not talk about how cute I am as soon as my back is turned" picture.
I just love that little Old Man. He's the god of bluntly wise and humorous kids.

Submitted by Lothere on Wed, 11/11/2009 - 19:50.Wahhh?? Your hair is lovely. It is a real brown color, whereas mine is just childhood blonde darkened to adult blah. I covet Pen's hair too, but I am sure she will tell us it's a nightmare to maintain. If I ever got the curly hair upgrade, I would probably return it within 15 days, just out of weariness. My hair care routine consists of nothing more than washing and running a comb through it, and that suits my lazy self just fine.
Is that your doggie, or just a random mutt that wandered into the shot?
That saying is very true.
Submitted by maruutsu on Wed, 11/11/2009 - 20:25.That saying is very true. Ever since I was little I've wanted straight hair, although to be fair, no one ever taught me that what you're not supposed to do with curly hair is comb it, so I was a messy looking kid. Now I like my hair just fine, though it is hard to maintain. Not as difficult as Pen's, I imagine, but her look is so cool it must be worth it.
Jenny, my beauty routine consists of getting out of bed and taking a shower. I let nature take care of the rest. I'm too lazy as well.
Although in my defense, I'm getting a facial tomorrow! Oh, gosh. I'll probably end up even whiter
That dog is so cute! I'm more of a cat person, but still.

Submitted by Jesska on Wed, 11/11/2009 - 20:44.Ha, ha, my routine is about the same. I get up and take a shower.
The only thing I *have* to do is make sure I use enough conditioner and spray-in too, otherwise my hair will turn into a frizzy mess. It's the downside to having native ancestry... Ugh. You either have smooth and thick hair, or thin and frizzy. *sigh*
I know, Pen will probably see us and shake her head. I had a co-worker named Marta who had gorgeous dark copper curls that somehow all managed to be the same length *envy*. All us thin and straight hair girls would faun over her hair and she'd always say, 'you guys have NO clue...'
Facial? Oooh! I had a manicure for the first time in my life about a month ago, and I swear, I never knew I had so much skin on my nails. It was everywhere... Plus a guy was doing it, so add insult to injury.
Thanks, I wish it was mine, but it's my friend's. I'm just her auntie.
I only have a cat, who's a rescue, so I don't know her exact breed. My friend's in the picture is a rotti, who's probably the Iylaine of the dog world...

Submitted by Jesska on Wed, 11/11/2009 - 22:36.(Sorry to double post! Just missed something that popped out to me. Whole other side to UBC, I'm kind of glad I didn't go now!! )
Back in early-Iraq-War days when I wanted a ticket out of the States, I applied to UVic and UBC. UBC DIDN'T FREAKING GET BACK TO ME!!! I can only assume my application and/or admission letter were lost in transit, because OK I'm not Einstein and I had changed majors a few times (making me look indecisive? dunno), but geez, honors program and deans list and all that and they don't even say "No thanks"? You blew it, UBC.
But all in all it worked out because I love Victoria. IT WAS LIKE DESTINY.
Seriously? Wow. I sent UBC a request almost two years ago now, and not even three days afterwards they got back to me and were trying to get me in (and no, I'm not a genius. I had a bad case of senioritus that year... whoops). I received a denial letter at least though, that's pretty underhanded they didn't send you anything.
UVic is cool too. I really wish I applied there back when I was trying like mad to get into UBC, but oh well. I don't really like my uni here, but I like my dept. so as long as they don't sack the dept. head anytime soon, I'll hang around in washington.
I really plan on working in either Alaska or B.C. eventually though. I've always liked it there. That, or Finland a/o Russia. Too many friends have invited me there, it's so tempting.

Submitted by Lothere on Thu, 11/12/2009 - 05:51.I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and believe that something got lost in the mail. I never applied to many universities in my life and was never refused, so I didn't realize that they were at least supposed to send you a rejection letter or something.
That, or my Destiny plucked the letter from the mailbag before anyone could read it. My Destiny does things like that sometimes.
Stuff like that make me glad
Submitted by maruutsu on Thu, 11/12/2009 - 06:57.Stuff like that make me glad the education system in my country doesn't require application letters. Otherwise I'd be doomed
When I applied to grad
Submitted by Lydia on Thu, 11/12/2009 - 09:22.When I applied to grad school, several schools never bothered getting back to me at all. Undergrad was a different story. Now that I'm in a graduate program and have a pretty good idea of how it's run, I can see how that would happen. It's not the most organized system. But it really sucks when you paid like $90 for the privilege of applying and they don't even bother to tell you no!
I covet Pen's hair too, but
Submitted by PenelopetheFox on Thu, 11/12/2009 - 17:18.Actually, the exact opposite is true. My hair is wash and go. The real nightmare was spending the first twenty years of my life trying to get it as straight as possible. So much wasted time and money and effort. So many bad haircuts.

My "don't you take a picture of me" picture.
A slightly less serious shot, but not as clear.
At the Michigan RennFest with a fellow simmer.
That so describes my hair.

Your hair is so not a blah color! Unless that is not your real color... *shifty eyes* I would definitely call that blonde. Whereas mine... *flips mousy strand*

Submitted by Lisa on Sat, 12/05/2009 - 16:34.Yes, we were in a Tim Horton's in Columbus. They don't have them everywhere in the States, (like Starbucks) but they're in some of the larger cities.
That is indeed my natural color, greys & all. I don't color it because:
1. Maintenance costs money I need more for food
2. If I color it, then I won't be able to donate it when I'm ready for a cut.
Meh, I used to be a towhead when I was a kid. In the summertime my hair & my brother's would be almost white.

I don't eat many donuts. DD can't have them (gluten intolerant) so I try to keep things like that out of the house. It would just be too mean to flaunt that kind of stuff.
Ah, hockey. I miss it. There was a minor league team where I used to live in NC. Seat were relatively inexpensive so we used to go to some of the games.

Poutine seems like something that could be good in small quantities, but only if it's well-made. The only poutine I've had is at New York Fries, and while their fries are good, and cheese curds are cheese curds, "beef" gravy out of a can is not something I would put in any of the food groups.

Alicia, the link you tried
Submitted by Lothere on Wed, 12/09/2009 - 05:28.Alicia, the link you tried to put was the link to the Web page on which you view the picture, not the link to the picture itself. What you want to do is select the [IMG] code to the left of the image (under "Share this Image") and copy and paste that here. Then change the [IMG] tags to what you had -- you got that part right.
E.g.

So, here's a pic of me.
Submitted by wawa180859 on Sun, 01/03/2010 - 19:21.So, here's a pic of me. Everyone else looks so FABULOUS! .... thought it was time you saw Wawa. The first is a photo when I brought a tour to Victoria, the second is from one of those "old time photo studios" located in Victoria. I had brought some clients to it one day and we all had our pictures taken. Theirs was hysterical. The ladies use to be dancers so they dressed as saloon girls showing off their "assets" to the guys dressed as bar patrons. I wish they had sent me one. Oh well. Herrrrrrrrrrre's Wawa!
Edit: Reason for all the activity in comments today?! I've been waiting over an hour or so for my game to load. Can we say ... "Too Much CC!"

Think this is a good place to let you people see this ninja reader. I've made my forum accound a while ago already but I was a bit ashamed for uploading a ... very crappy avatar. I was to shy (yes I'm even somewhay internet shy).
Small intro for you guys or should I be opening a new topic for that?
Okay my name as you can see is Miriam I'm 21 years old now ... getting closer and closer to 22. (Birthday is March 20). I love fantasy stuff. You can see me on the Elf Fantasy Fair every year (dressed up in a nice elven/medieval dress). Other stuff aside from reading here or reading books I love to write too but the only reader is my sister. I did make sims after my characters for fun but they're only my eye candy at the moment (and yup they're well bit medieval more fantasy styled).
My main languages are (in the right order) Dutch, German (my mum is German), English...and ... I just started learning French this year (but I'm not able to speak a word yet). I know a few things here and there from some other languages too.
I live in the beautiful city of Gouda. If you're in the Netherlands and you love a bit somewhat old buildings and musea than go visit it. (The curch has kewl glas stained windows).
Let's see what else... Ah well I draw a lot... and I will be working on a nursery school soon for a while I hope the kids are nice. Think that'll be enough for now it's kind of late for me and this is a photo topic but okay now atleast you guys know me a little. I still won't comment a lot because I'm reading and all and although I don't mind a few spoilers here and there I don't want to know every thing yet untill I'm fully up to date. I'm getting there! Eventho I'm reading more than a year now...
*waves and poofs out*
Oh, my, we don't actually
Submitted by Lothere on Mon, 01/18/2010 - 12:00.Oh, my, we don't actually have an "Introduce yourself" thread, do we? The "What Lotherian character do you most resemble" thread sort of turned into that, but not officially. Maybe I need to start one.
So... AHA! One of the Dutch readers has been identified. I don't see Gouda in my site statistics specifically.... just Capelle aan den IJssel and Rotterdam. :shifty eyes: My statistics must not be very specific! Now I just have to figure out who is in Haren.
(I just installed Google Analytics on my site and I am still in "Oooh! Shiny!" mode.)
How far ARE you in the story, Miriam? If you've been reading for a year? I don't know how you could hold all the characters in your head for so long.
(And is Miriam your real name? If you don't mind me asking. I love that name. I named one of my computers Miriam. Because I don't have many pets. )
As for location I once went
Submitted by Miriam on Wed, 01/20/2010 - 06:21.As for location I once went on some map showing the location of your IP address it once showed up as Woerden (Woerden isn't all to far away something like 15 km? I think) Some other odd time when visiting some ones blog I showed up as a visitor with location somewhere (dunno what city it was) in Limburg the province Limburg is something like a cardrive of 2 hours away. Oh wel...
As for how far I am in the story hmm let's see I'm just done with 1250 ... So I'm getting there. At one of my first visits I did read a newer post something with a little kid called seven. But I thought: Aaah I don't understand anything of the story I don't know the characters. So went to the start and since than I did have peeked at some newer posts but well stuff is still easier to understand if you've read more that fills the gap of time. So the only new posts I've really read are the ones that take place in the past.
Miriam is my real first name . My sister and some friends (sometimes) call me Mimi, Mir or Mirja
(last one probably because most people here speak and write my name as Mirjam (meer-jam) here but I always do pronounce it as meeh-REE-am when introducing... meh lazy people).
haha computer named Miriam fun... hmm my computers are mostly just called compy, puta or puu
(I don't have many compies here just well the one everyone uses downstairs, my old slooooow laptop, my new fast laptop and some old 3 GB windows 98 compy with some old but fun retro games in my little brothers room)
