I voted I don't care. Ullach doesen't seem that interesting to me right now, I wouldn't mind her coming into the story as long as it does not push Aia's storyline to the back. And if she doesen't come back into the story its no loss.

Submitted by Lothere on Mon, 05/04/2009 - 10:46.Uallach got a surprisingly good response in the comments to "Eochaid sows the wind" -- even though she did nothing more than than sit there and make a few faces and whimper at her parents -- so I figured a poll was in order to gauge the wider reaction.
I don't intend on doing anything with her before the end of 1085, but I just wondered whether she is something I should make a priority for 1086 or not. As in: early 1086, versus "whenever" 1086-1087.
MOAR UALLACH probably does mean more Aed, Orlaith, and Scotland, by the way, but what I'm really interested in with this poll is how much people care about Uallach herself.
For those of you who haven't followed too closely in comments, etc., my plan is for Uallach to be a little special. She has odd-colored eyes for her clan, like Connie, and I'm thinking she's epileptic or something along those lines... which, considering the times, will probably make people treat her a little "special" anyway. So if you're interested in that sort of storyline, vote for Uallach. She's the one.

To be quite honest for some reason I'm much more interested in her Aunt Martha and her children who are friends with Yware.. But as long as Ullach proves useful than I don't object to seeing her more in the story.

Yeah, I'm with Sofie there.
Submitted by Van on Mon, 05/04/2009 - 17:07.Yeah, I'm with Sofie there. Moar Uallach, but I don't want any of the current storylines set on the back-burner just for her.
Don't worry, I don't think I
Submitted by Lothere on Mon, 05/04/2009 - 17:23.Don't worry, I don't think I would do that, Van.. I will probably wait till I find an opportunity to tie her into one of the other storylines I have planned. I don't need another free electron à la Cearball. I still don't know what I'm going to do with that boy now. (heheh maybe he can fall in love with Uallach and her eyes of the color without a name...)
Sounds like a plan to me.

Actually... I'm not so repulsed by the idea of Cearball/Connie anymore. I think now in regards to Connie, I'm just Team Anybody-But-Finn.
Well...in the post I was
Submitted by Nimue on Mon, 05/04/2009 - 23:06.Well...in the post I was relatively interested in her because she is not an outright beauty but is very pretty in an interesting way, and also because she seems to have a vivid imagination. Like another, different version of Connie (only my first thought, I am sure they are much more different than I know). And then reading the comments I had one of those wonderful daydreams of a landslide of events that were a Lothere plot-line...
So, Cearball. I think that it would be so interesting to see his character deepen by him not 'getting' Connie, and I feel like Uallach may be the perfect means. This one, epileptic girl, at first seeming just a second place amusement (or annoyance) to Cearball, slowly becoming more and more endearing to him. Maybe him recognizing in her something real that only she could give him, maybe him seeing a different kind of beauty and an innocence that is rooted in a harsher reality? Her filling the things that maybe Cearball thinks Connie can but really can't? Him finally accepting her with all her faults and imperfections and not wanting to trade them in for anything? Of course I do not know much about Uallach, who is possibly even too young at this point, or the political echoes that would exactly cause, but it could kill two birds with one stone character wise in a happy, short or maybe just spread out plot line that could every once in a while be mentioned? Ah, just some musings. Time for me to sleep! This is currently finals time for me but I could not resist. One of those thoughts that if I ever had time I would be inspired to write a short story (or outline a novel) for.
EDIT: Forgot another couple reasons I think Uallach may prove to be interesting. First, how would it be to grow up with a mother like Orlaith? I feel like we do not have much mother-daughter interaction and Orlaith is definitely something. Also, Uallach is Lathir's sister! And Lathir was really quite great. Maybe Uallach picked up some of that. And she is fifteen! So, not too young.
I don't doubt that you can
Submitted by maria on Mon, 05/04/2009 - 23:56.I don't doubt that you can make Ullach interesting, if you want to write about her.
But after this chapter I have no interest in hearing more about her. There were so many more interesting characters and things going on. She is pretty and apparently loves a good story, but I honestly felt she was the least interesting thing in the last chapter.
I know, maria, I couldn't
Submitted by Lothere on Tue, 05/05/2009 - 04:31.I know, maria, I couldn't quite figure out why 90% of the comments were mentioning Uallach at the beginning. From the comments here it looks like it is more than her simple role in this chapter. Some combination of her being a daughter of Aed (and we didn't see enough of her big sister Lathir) and just the slight aura of "special" I had built up around her already in comments and so forth? Though I suppose there can be something intriguing in someone who was so deeply intrigued by Eochaid's tale. And she did seem quite overruled by her parents, didn't she?
Nimue, I was sorta kidding about the Cearball + Uallach thing, but now you have me thinking. And indeed, Cearball and Uallach are second cousins since Orlaith and Cearball's dad are both descendants of Brian Boru... Now how to bring them together...
Whatever, just get Connie

Submitted by Alice on Tue, 05/05/2009 - 16:03.While more Uallach might be interesting, I think we have more than enough characters who still need further development. (Margaret, Emma, Caedwulf, Yware, etc.) I'd rather see more chapters with your current characters than add new ones into the mix. The idea of Uallach/Cearball is intriguing, but I'm not a big fan of Cearball and I'm far more interested in reading MOAR Malcolm/Rua or Gwynn/Finn.
I concur. MOAR Finn/Gwynn.

Well, alright, I understand
Submitted by Nimue on Wed, 05/06/2009 - 22:26.Well, alright, I understand what everyone is saying, that there are main characters already that we need to see more of, and I probably agree more with that than with seeing a new one. And, this way, maybe Uallach's character can just be what it is in my head. Still, I thought I would share a possibility for Cearball.

There's something about Lathir that was mysterious and drawing. I don't blame Stein for marrying her. Hopefully Gamle will have some of his mother's tendencies.
Ullach doesen't have that aura Lathir has yet.
