Help!
Submitted by Verity on Sun, 07/12/2009 - 04:27.
I need some help. Has anybody ever had the problem that the babies in their game have the right skintone only on their face and boy, the top of their head is some maxis skintone. Basically it looks like they are wearing one of those bald wigs or something. I can't work out why it has happened, but it is not just new babies, but it seems to be affecting all the babies in the game all of a sudden. I thought it could be related to a new hair mesh I might have downloaded in the last month or so but I can't find which one.
Any ideas or suggestions?
I just checked and it seems to be a recent problem. Like only in the last couple of weeks. I have no idea what new thing I have done during that time.

Okay, it seems I spoke too
Submitted by Verity on Sun, 07/12/2009 - 04:41.Okay, it seems I spoke too soon. It is not all babies that are affected but only some. And it is an older problem I think, which I just had not noticed till now. Maybe I am just going to have to live with it. But if anybody had a suggestion as to why this might be happening I would really appreciate it.
I've seen that before on
Submitted by Lothere on Sun, 07/12/2009 - 05:13.I've seen that before on some of my babies with Enayla skins, though maybe it wasn't as bad as yours since I wasn't super-shocked. I mean, it wasn't like they had a pasted-on bald wig of a totally different skin color, it was just that the edge between top-of-head and the rest-of-head can be pretty damn obvious. As I recall I see this with Liadan sometimes. Do you have any screenshots?
I couldn't find any
Submitted by Lothere on Sun, 07/12/2009 - 05:50.I couldn't find any screenshots right off, but I had another thought -- is it possible that this started after you got BV? I've had problems in the game lately where some Sims will have their hair lit much brighter than their faces. It's only really noticeable when you have a hair that has some skin visible in the part or around the hairline, since you can compare it to the color of the actual skin. So maybe the baby scalps are getting that treatment too, making them appear to be a different color. I haven't had a look at Liadan since I got BV.
Myself I have had no end of problems with lighting since I installed OFB+BV+AL recently.
I've had that problem a few
Submitted by Van on Sun, 07/12/2009 - 09:39.I've had that problem a few times myself, even though I only have the base game, but it's dependent on the baby, and whatever skin it has.
As for what to do with it... I have no idea. Whenever I have skin problems with kids, teens, adults, or elders, I play around with the fitness level using InSim and the skin corrects itself as the body type changes, but I really have no idea what to do about toddlers and babies. Sorry
Although I wouldn't worry too much about it in pictures. From my rather limited experience, most people only notice photography errors/glitches/other oddities if the author points them out in the comments, but you probably knew that already.
Actually I think it might be
Submitted by Verity on Mon, 07/13/2009 - 09:15.Actually I think it might be a BV problem. I have noticed my lighting is terrible lately and I think it must be since I installed it. Not all are bad, but sometimes I am getting some really harsh shadowing which sucks. And I have the hair light problem too Lothere, but I only noticed in when I was taking pictures for the last few posts. Bummer. I need to make the effort and learn how to modify my lighting files without breaking the game.
I guess I will live with the baby problem. It is isn't as drastically horrible as I made it out to be I guess. I just really don't like it, but it seems like crafty, indoor lighting hides most of the problem and well, other than that I guess I can just ask you guys to avert your eyes (or to quote you Lothere, pretend along with me )
I did assume it was BV since
Submitted by Lothere on Mon, 07/13/2009 - 09:24.I did assume it was BV since you said it screwed up your lighting as soon as you installed it. Bummer. I haven't quite been able to isolate the hair-lighting bug -- sometimes it only affects certain Sims in the room, but I am not sure if it's because those Sims get bugged, or perhaps only because they are standing precisely at a point where the light gets wonky. I have seen some weird effects in BV where light halos from multiple lights intersect.
(I seem to get it the worst with lights based off the wall candles from Uni, but keep in mind that I have modified all of the lighting defaults on top of that and may have screwed something up.)
I do still intend to release my lighting files, but they're such a mess as I attempt to work out various bugs. I had to rewrite everything after I installed BV.
I have been very happy with some of the lighting effects I have achieved recently. The chapter in the inn with Finn and Eadred really came out just as I wanted it. But if you take the same lighting files and go to a different room with different lamps, the effect ends up totally different... too bright or too dark or whatever. I'm getting to the point where I tweak the lights for every chapter I write. *sigh*
