"Welcome to the stupid family."
Okay, so I don't honestly expect an answer for this, because it seems I can't find one anywhere...

...would anyone, by any chance, happen to have some idea as to how to make a posebox and custom poses?
Long story short, there are not many that are compatible with just the base game, and of those that are, a lot of them are rather statuesque, and like many others, I feel that only the natural ones are worth using. Not that I bother with poseboxes particularly often anyway--I'm sinfully lazy when it comes to posing, plus I have this fear of my game crashing while I have moveObjects and boolprop snapobjectstogrid false activated--but it would be nice to have the option when needed.
My theory is that a sim must have a "skeleton" of some sort, complete with movable joints that allow for animations and poses. I know that this is a long shot, but would anyone know how to manipulate said skeleton? If anyone has any ideas, they would be much appreciated. No pressure, though.

I know this isn't what
Submitted by maruutsu on Fri, 09/18/2009 - 19:16.I know this isn't what you're asking for, but still, I think it could help you out a bit. It's an article on posing without poseboxes:
http://afterthecalling.wordpress.com/pwpb-not-granddads-overlays/
Garden of Shadows and the SimHaven community at LJ list this kind of stuff, maybe they have other tutorials. I'll keep looking. Good luck!
I found these...? I've
Submitted by Lothere on Fri, 09/18/2009 - 19:37.I found these...? I've never actually looked for this before. Anything involving meshes seems way out of what I'm willing to put time into doing. I spend/waste enough time in BodyShop as it is!
"Create your own Custom Pose Boxes from Scratch!" begins with the words "Don't let the title intimidate you!" To that I say "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here!"
"Animation Tutorial (Concept)" I think this might cover poses too? Not sure...
Good luck!
Thanks Maruutsu I have read

I have read those tutorials, and they're very good, but unfortunately, most of the recommended animations require at least one EP
I'm not too worried, though. Like I said, I'm sinfully lazy, so I can live with the Maxis animations.
Thanks, Lothere How did you

How did you find these? Nothing at all useful came up when I was searching. That happens to me a lot, actually--I must have a natural disinclination for choosing the right search engine terms
I read these over and they don't actually seem too difficult... I'm just hesitant to download Milkshape (I've heard some horror stories--not sure if they're true, but I don't think I'm desperate enough for poses to risk it).
What would be really great is if someone found a way to toggle the skeleton so that it is temporarily available in-game for posing. That's waaaay too much to hope for, though; probably anyone who would otherwise be willing to do so is now in the realms of Sims 3 *curses Sims 3*
I searched for "making sims
Submitted by Lothere on Sat, 09/19/2009 - 05:46.I searched for "making sims poseboxes" in Google and the top result was this page. From there I just scrolled way down. More poseboxes than you will ever need!
I didn't realize poseboxes (as opposed to animboxes) were not base-game compatible though? They're just annoying as hell.
I had the same thought you did yesterday! Couldn't they have let us click on parts of the Sims body and drag them around to nice positions? Hand up here, foot over here... Of course I guess the Sims weren't made to stand there like store mannequins and wait to be posed, but still... these are my virtual Barbies, people!!! Let me pose them!
Yeah, it is pretty sucky.
Submitted by Van on Sat, 09/19/2009 - 09:50.Yeah, it is pretty sucky. Fortunately, the modeling hack--which everyone who does have all the poseboxes and all the EPs seem to find one of the most useful ones--is base game compatible. And then I have the buyable version of Paul's reaction tester, the depression hack, and I think one more that I can't remember the name of right now. But yeah, the rest require at least one EP
Although now that Sims 3 is out, I've been debating getting my hands on at least Uni and Nightlife if and when I get the money (I've learned my lesson about bootlegging games). Yep, they're still in stores, or at least last time I went to EB Games, they were (I was quite surprised). Apartment Life would be useful too, but it comes with Bon Voyage, which I'd like to avoid due to all the conflicts with Gunmod I've heard about.
