So I guess you are a Gwynn
Submitted by Lothere on Fri, 10/15/2010 - 04:13.So I guess you are a Gwynn fan!
I have a chapter with Gwynn coming up three chapters from now, though I think it will be from Meggie's POV. But there will be Girl Talk. So maybe we'll find out a little more about Gwynn's love life and latest adventures then.
For now, she's still hanging out with Domnall. I don't know if they've kissed yet. We may find out in that upcoming chapter. But I don't think it's ever going to be too serious -- Domnall is too shy, and I doubt Gwynn really loves him. But he's a nice boyfriend for a 13-year-old who was starting to feel unattractive and unloved.
There is a storyline that features all of Gwynn's adventures for the past three years -- "Lothere: The Next Generation." It isn't all Gwynn -- it includes Meggie, Emmie, Conrad, Cedric, Finn, and Connie. I will look into the possibility of doing an all-Gwynn storyline (hmm maybe starting with her appearances as a toddler? ) but it would be mostly the same -- just without the other kids.
As for Young Aed... I have said so many times that Fwynn! is sacred that I would have a hard time backing down and making Gwynn end up with Young Aed now! However, I have a lot of ideas about how Young Aed could play an ongoing role in her life -- perhaps becoming Finn's real romantic rival, as opposed to Domnall, who Finn will probably realize straightaway represents no real threat.
I see another dramatic love triangle in our future. Possibly involving kidnapping or even running away from home, followed by a grudging rescue.
Fwynn huh??, now that i

I would really love to have a Gwynn story line, i just feel like i still haven´t seen Gwynn in all the glory she deserves, i don´t know why, but i kind of hope that when she grows older she gets a lot of male attention, kind of like connie, because i think that Gwynn needs to get tired of flirting you know, like an excess of male attention would make her calm down even the tiniest bit, and I hope it gets very difficult to for Finn to get Gwynns attention, serves him right for making her cry, and upsetting her so many times. And i love your idea of kidnapping or running away from home, it´s genious, like Gwynn would say SOOO romantinc, i also kind of like Margaret too you know, she has a little sweetheart, well kind of a sweetheart, please don´t break my heart telling me that Margaret isn´t goin to end up with Cordan.
I agree with you there. We
Submitted by Ann on Sat, 10/16/2010 - 01:24.I agree with you there. We definitely haven't seen Gwynn in all her glory. But she is only just growing into said glory, so that's not surprising. She's only 13 after all. I think with her being Matilda's daughter and as pretty as she is, she'll get more than her fair share of male attention once she's grown out of her awkward "bumpy dumpling" phase.
That's a nice thought! I can see it happen too. And turn-about is fair play, no? She has already caught Young Aed's interest, and I don't think he'll be the only one. Domnall is not bad either, although he's not what Gwynn needs in the long run and vice versa.
We'll get our Gwynn story-line, I'm sure of it. We just have to be patient a little longer, and give her time to grow up.
As for Margaret, I'm not sure if I want her to end up with Conrad or Cynan. I don't like Cynan, but I can kind of see Maggie connecting with him. She isn't the romantic type, and neither is he. They are rather alike, I think, and not only in that regard. They might be good together, as long as they don't expect romance and passion.
Conrad is another thing entirely. I like him much more than Cynan, but I don't know if I like him for Maggie. He may love her, but he's also patronizing her too much for my taste. Possible, that it's only the age difference and he'll grow out of it. But if he doesn't I'm not going to wave any Margrad banners. And I'm pretty sure Maggie won't either.
Anyway, nothing is decided yet. She is still very young. Alred won't let her marry before she's 16 at the very least, so we have lots and lots of time before she'll have to decide.
There may even be someone else in Margaret's future, for all we know. Someone we haven't met so far. Who knows?
May I ask where you are from, reader 101? Just curious, you know. ^^
I'm sort of torn between
Submitted by Emma on Sat, 10/16/2010 - 06:44.I'm sort of torn between suitors for Gwynn. I like Young Aed and Gwynn together - i could definately see her in the role of 'wife of a leader', and i think she'd do a great job. But of course Fwynn is totally amazing, theres so much chemistry in all of their interactions, that it would be a crime for either one to end up with someone else.
As for Meggie, i never really thought of Cynan as a real prospect until someone pointed out the Mr Darcy comparisons, which sort of makes me want to see that storyline, if it happened. I find Conrad a bit patronising as well, but he is young. Still, whatever happens i'm sure i'll love it because Lothere will write it so well.

reader 101, Gwynn already has had a surprising number of chapters, especially compared to the other kids her age, but she hasn't had her own story in the same way that, say, Eithne has. Like her father, so far Gwynn seems to have the role of: The Fascinating, Nuanced Point-of-View of Someone Who Is Intimately Involved In (and Sometimes Meddles With) the Other Characters' Lives. Like Alred, she almost takes on the Narrator role at times.
However, I know that Gwynn has a story in her. Not a strictly-romantic one either. Gwynn is a little Matilda, a Great Lady-to-be. She doesn't have the love of politics for politics' sake that Matilda did (and which Meggie may have to a greater measure), but she has that other thing that Matilda had: passion. Meggie is pragmatic and rational. Gwynn is capable of acts of both great stupidity and stunning grandeur. Think of the story potential in that!
As for Meggie, I haven't made up my mind for her yet. I think Meggie needs to learn her own mind before she settles on a man. She likes Conrad as a friend but wishes he would be content to be only a friend for now. And as much as she mocked Blocky, I can't help but think she has developed a teeny bit of cousinly affection for him. Perhaps--and Blocky is indeed shrewd to think of it--she likes him because she had so much fun mocking him.
I don't want to rush either of those girls, though. They're only 13 and 11 right now. Plenty of adventures ahead before they have to pick a man and settle down. And I think they're both capable of giving us interesting stories that don't necessarily involve romance and boyfriends.
Emma, I agree with you about Gwynn and Aed and the "wife of a leader" role that she seems to deserve. In fact, the one thing I always found sad about Fwynn! was the fact that Finn was a nobody compared to Gwynn--a serf's son. He might aspire to having a manor house like Baldwin some day, but no more, right? That would be sad for Gwynn, who would be reduced to meddling in the love lives of her servants, rather than affairs of state.
But then that conversation with Congal at the helm of the ship reminded me that Finn has some worthy ancestry--namely Black Colin--and he may have a possibility of making a name for himself in Galloway. And, ironically, Young Aed may be the best way for him to do that. There would be tons of story potential in a love triangle where Young Aed helped Finn become powerful, just in time to realize that Finn represents a danger to his (Aed's) romance with Gwynn. And just in time for Finn to realize he's in love with his friend's fiancée. AND THEN??? Who betrays whom?
