Two random questions before I start up again
Submitted by Cynthia on Mon, 03/21/2011 - 22:44.
Hello! Back again. I have two questions that I need to get out of the way before I can start rereading (I have a lot to catch up on - I may even have to start from 1080. )
Question #1:
Is there any chance of a romance between Cedric and Githa? I mean, of course the difference in class would get in the way, but there's some drama potential. I had two reasons as to why they might be good together, but the only thing that is coming to mind right now is the fact that she is the daughter of the man Cedric tried to save, both emotionally and physically. (Well, maybe it's not so much dramatic as it is swoon-worthy. If you're into that sort of thing... )
Question #2:
This isn't mean to sound critical, but I am curious; what were you thinking when you made Aethelnoth? He hasn't been around much, but whenever I see him I think of the stereotypical surfer "dude," - it's a little funny to see him wandering around in Medieval times.
And that concludes my random questions thread of the year. I might have more as I work my way back to 1085! (And if I do - would you prefer I keep them on this one thread?)

Welcome back, Cynthia! 1.

1. Cedric and Githa: I won't rule it out. Cedric is bound to have a special interest in those kids, and it may even enter his well-meaning head that he ought to do SOMETHING to help them now, since he didn't save them from Graybeard. And his well-meaning penis might suggest that the SOMETHING should involve getting naked with the eldest daughter.
In fact, I think that something of that nature is so likely on Cedric's part if he's left to his own devices, that Sigefrith and/or Leof will secretly intervene to prevent it from happening.
I'm not sure it would be to Githa's taste anyway, really. Ask young Matilda about that. (Err--when you've read that far.)
2. I wasn't thinking anything when I made Aethelnoth. He's just a quickly-repurposed Sim that I made when I needed a couple of guards to hang out in the background of a chapter. He just happens to have the windswept, sunbleached hair of a surfer dude (which is not surprising since he spends his days out of doors). What his fellow Lotherians probably see when they look at him is not "surfer dude" so much as "Norse ancestry."
3. Ideally for random questions you could make a new thread and title it after your question. Easier to skim the board that way. But I am not going to be strict about that.
Githa & Cedric: Out of your
Submitted by Cynthia on Tue, 03/22/2011 - 21:30.Githa & Cedric: Out of your entire post, the concept that jumped out at me the most was the fact that penises could be well-meaning. This I did not know. (Juvenile moment there, moving along.)
It's good to know that he *might* do something. After Tidraed was sentenced, it kind of felt like Cedric just forgot about the whole thing. I understand that there's only so much one can do, but still. It only seems right that Cedric should find them and go into mega-male "protector" mode - especially after all the horror Graybeard could have put them through. (I just peeked at the other chapter Githa was in. The one with Aía. OH. MY. JEEZ.)
I kind of agree with you that Githa might not care for the idea. To my thinking (and this is based solely on my faulty memory, I'm not going to reread her POV chapter until I've caught up) Githa seemed to be a very practical and survival-oriented person. Maybe even a little Gunnie-esque in that respect. She might be happier in a more secure and typical arrangement - if that's even possible considering who her parents were.
Anyhow - I still have some hope for a Cedric-Githa relationship. Even if it's platonic. (I suppose now would be a good time to start rackin' up some karma!)
Aethelnoth: I did figure he might have been made just to stand around in the background, but it was worth asking. Despite the possible Mighty Norse aspect, I still see surfer dude. Just look in his eyes!
The Ideal Thing to Do: Ah, okay. I'll keep that in mind the next time. Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.
Cedric did sort of totally
Submitted by Lothere on Wed, 03/23/2011 - 04:06.Cedric did sort of totally forget about Tidraed after he had saved him, and he felt guilty about that later when he was arrested. He felt then that he should have done more to help.
So does this mean that Cedric is going to forget about that family again? Or does it mean that he'll do better by them this time?
Hmm I don't see anything
Submitted by Devin on Thu, 03/31/2011 - 19:14.Hmm I don't see anything wrong with Cedric having a mistress. He is a bit young now but in the future... He isn't married nor betrothed and his mother was a mistress (or concubine) so why not.
Devin, while there isn't
Submitted by Cynthia on Thu, 03/31/2011 - 21:41.Devin, while there isn't anything *wrong* with it, I personally don't see it happening. Outline:
- Because his mother was a mistress/wife/concubine/whathaveyou, wouldn't that make him *less* likely to go out and have one himself? I know, I know, things were different back then, think of the times... But he's Cedric (circa 1085.)
- The Leofric factor. Isn't Cedric the one who is terrified of being just like his father? I can't really see him settling with any girl, but if he should manage to get over himself and marry one, I just don't see him having a mistress on top of everything. Too Leofric-like.
And, Lothere... your question was rhetorical, right?
Well nothing is impossible
Submitted by Devin on Fri, 04/01/2011 - 05:58.Well nothing is impossible in Lothere. I don't see Cedric marrying a woman and having a mistress either. But I could see him falling in love with a girl like Githa and since he can't marry a girl of her social standing she would be his mistress , concubine or common law wife. Men have done that for centuries.
I was only musing, Cynthia.
Submitted by Lothere on Fri, 04/01/2011 - 08:07.I was only musing, Cynthia. I don't have any plans for Cedric's amatory career yet.
I just thought that it would be like Cedric to get himself entangled with her. He would hang around that family, trying to help in his good-hearted yet hapless way, and then when he had proximity to a grateful female his well-meaning penis would take over. (I wasn't kidding about that part.)
However, like I said, I don't see Githa being all grateful and swoony over her squire in shining armor. On the contrary, I see her being very wary of males young and old. Since she is no longer in a situation where her siblings are in immediate danger of starvation, I don't think she'll close her eyes and think of England, either. I bet she'll keep Cedric at arm's length no matter how hard he tries to help.
