Do they still do that thing where it's a sort of temporary green card, and after 2 years of marriage you have to apply for the permanent one? We did that (circa 2002) for Mr. Lothere and we ended up leaving for Canada the day before they finally sent it in the mail.

However, my hubby is joining the military. And when it's a time of war, he only needs 1 day of honorable service to apply for citizenship and that'll take another year. But he can become a citizen that way.
That's so funny! We've heard they take forever...And then we went through it. Filed on the first day of March, hubby got his biometerics March 31, his work permit April 5th, his social security number the next week, and then our interview was May 19th with an ICE agent. She filed the paperwork the same day, we got approved and BAM! his card was here on Sat.
It happened SO fast for us!

And I discovered today that I descended in direct line from King Jean II de France. As such, my ancestors are the Kings of Kent and the Dukes and Normandy and so many awesome families. It's quite fun to have half Lothere characters as fictional depictions of actuals ancestors. And I find my discovery is quite cool so I wanted to share it here !

I am lucky, because I'm a descendant of Lawrence Washington, George Washington's great-great-grandfather, and since some zealous people have already traced George Washington's ancestry back to medieval times, I got lots of famous royal ancestors "for free".
In terms of people in this story, I am a descendant of William the Conqueror and his wife Matilda, and of King Malcolm of Scotland and Queen Margaret, by way of both their daughter Margaret and their son David who is just a baby right now. (But I'm not descended from Ethelred, for obvious reasons.
) Also Philippe of France by way of a daughter of Louis VII. But Jean II is a descendant of Louis VII also, so WE ARE COUSINS!!!

I am graduating from College in May (that's not the news, although that's good news too), and yesterday I got an e-mail from one of my professors (who is also my Mock Trial coach) asking if she could nominate me for commencement speaker! After thinking about it a bit, I gave her my permission, and today she sent me a copy of the nomination. It is probably the nicest thing I have ever read about myself, and it makes me cry every time I read it. This professor is someone I admire, and respect a great deal, so to know that she thinks so highly of me, really means a lot. I just wanted to share!
