In honor of the first anniversary of The Medieval Smithy I have remixed some classic medieval outfits for Sims 2 men, using some of the more authentic tunic meshes that have been created in recent years.
Viking Tunic and LBB Viking Tunic
My favorite mesh for 11th century Englishmen is iamliz13’s Russian Viking Style Tunic. There is also a short-sleeved version of this mesh using the Lean Bodybuilder shape.
“Steward Tunic”
My first offering is a remix of a 2007 outfit by zoej, from her Male Medieval Clothing 2 set. Here is that outfit in action:
Ralf, my Royal Steward, has worn the red tunic from this set for years, so I made a new version for him on the Viking mesh. I then created some recolors based on this outfit, rather than using other colors from the original set.
(That’s Wynn, Ethelwyn, Ralf, and Aldwyn, stewards of Bernwald, Thorhold, Lothere, and Nothelm.)
I also made roughly the same outfits on the LBB Viking mesh, though the sleeves are necessarily different. The colors are slightly different too.
Here are the four mild-mannered stewards of Lothere on steroids:

“Old and New Tunics”
Next I have two remixes of outfits from the 2005 Midsimmer Night’s Dream set from Mod the Sims, and two brand-new ones.
The old ones are so old that they were Sigefrith and Alred’s original outfits when I started this story nearly six years ago.
Here they are back then:
And here they are now:
The two new outfits are Leofric’s Lille outfit from “Robert is cowed by the clan” and a version of the same without the overtunic, on the LBB mesh. Young Sigefrith’s tunic appears to be made of crackly leather. (You can click the image to enlarge.)

Fantasyrogue’s Tunic and Chausses
My other favorite medieval male mesh is Fantasyrogue’s Medieval Tunic and Chausses. They are separates, which makes them even more awesome because you can mix and match tunic and chausse colors.
For my remix I chose one of Helaene’s Medieval Men’s Outfits, also from A Midsimmer Night’s Dream. My readers will recognize this as the laced-up shirt that Egelric, Alwy, and Ethelmund used to wear.
(Egelric famously wore the maroon because it didn’t show the dirt. )
I took Egelric’s version, fit the neck lacing onto the tunic mesh as best I could, and made six recolors. I also made four recolors of the chausses, which I will talk about in a minute. First a look at the tunics.
(That’s Anson, Ethelmund, Egelric, Oswald, Prologue-Chapter-Alwy, and Wulsy.)

A closer view of the lacing:
Now for the chausses. I made some alterations to Fantasyrogue’s version. I replaced the braies with the braies from All About Style because I like them better. I also added color-coordinated side-laces as a nod to the fact that this is how the hosen were held up in an age before elastic. (Think garter belt + thigh-high stockings.) Finally, I edited the alpha so that the gap between hose and braies now shows the skin.
If the man is wearing a skin-tight untuckable T-shirt, then some of the top may be visible in the gap, as if it were tucked into the braies. Not much I can do about that, but I don’t know why your medieval man would be dressed like that anyway.

A final word
Don’t forget to check out The Medieval Smithy! I am not the only one celebrating its anniversary by distributing gifts.
Egelric looks so pitiable with that short haircut.
(But the way Wulsy is looking at Alwy cracks me up. Not to mention the way Egelric seems to be keeping a careful eye on one of them.)
