Egelric Storyline Parts 1, 2, 3

MOAR STORYLINES!

I read all of Sela's posts today. She burned bright and fast, poor thing...she and Lili both. I had nearly forgotten how adorable she was.

Ach, this must have been emotionally exhausting to put together! What a life Egelric has had...

It has been sort of overwhelming, but at the same time it's been good for me to have a fast-forward look at the progression of Egelric's character. The crescendo and then downslide of his relationship with Gunnilda, his gradual withdrawal from Iylaine... and the first glimpses of the monster within him, with that chapter with the camp woman, and even "Egelric has a few moments alone", which despite being rather long-winded over-all has some prophetic moments:

He pushed the curl of hair back down against the bottom seam of the little purse, gave a tug at the drawstring as he withdrew his hand, and closed up his pouch again.  He glanced in the mirror to be sure that the costume of the man hung gracefully over the contours of the beast, and then he went down to join them.

And in "Alred meets Egelric going out":

He stood and turned to look down on his lord, his face an expressionless mask but for a certain grimness at the mouth.

...

"Nonetheless I hope that you will find the heart to go say a kind word to Gunnilda before it's too late.  If not the heart, then I hope, at least, that you will find the kind word."

"Will it die?"  Humanity flickered again over Egelric's face.

That's humanity? Ho shit, Egelric, you scare me sometimes.

Oh Cassie I love u, that is the most beautifulest thing you've ever said about Lady Sela.

OK I just finished reading Parts 2 and 3. Meryt you really need to allow Egelric some long standing happiness(if there is such a thing). After reading this I can't help but realize how similar the Sela & Lili years are. They both follow the same formula: the beginning starts out horribly wrong, then towards the middle everything starts to look up for Egelric and he's happy, then it all ends abruptly.

Even though I've read the ending of the Sela era many times I can't get over how abrupt and tragic the ending was.

Oh another thing I've noticed is your writing Meryt, it's just gotten better and better and much more in detail since the first post.

We shall see whether Egelric Part Five goes along the same lines. The beginning has certainly started all wrong.

But there WILL BE an Egelric Part Five, righttttt?

Why yes. Part Four will only take us up to the death of Lili. Part Five is already underway. The question now is: will he break his pattern well enough for Part Five to be a "The ____ Years" storyline that doesn't feature a woman in the blank?

Is it wrong that I hope there won't be a woman in that blank?

Would you make an exception for Gunnilda? I do think "Egelric and Finn" could be an interesting theme though.

But I don't know how Part Five is going to go. I know how far down I'm going to send him, but I don't know how he's going to get back up.

Argh! Now I'm conflicted! Would I make an exception for Gunnilda? *frets*

"The Finn Years" sounds a little bit more probable to me though. I wonder what kind of man Finn would grow up to be after tagging along behind Egelric for X number of years...

Especially when you consider what sort of role Finn might end up playing. Finn tagging along after Wandering Egelric would not give us the same man as Finn propping up the leaning colossus. We've seen a bit of the latter already. And propping up can look a lot like pushing away to everyone involved, and vice versa.

I think Finn the Buttress could totally keep the Great Wall of Egelric from ruin. Finn has a profound impact on his father that he doesn't seem to be cognizant of.

*wants Finn to save Egelric SO BAD*

Finn the Flying Buttress! If Gwynn could just make up her mind to say "Butt" she could trump his Cockaninny once and for all!

(Have flying buttresses been invented in 1085? Darn!)

According to wikipedia, flying buttresses were used starting in the 12th century. But your standard, run of the mill "buttress" probably dates back to antiquity.
